Etymology
The Generic Name Cenchrus " derives from a term ancient Greek, κεγχρος (Kengchros) which designated Panicum miliaceum (common millet) or any plant similar to small grains2. The specific epithet " Alopecuroides " is formed by the genre name Alopecurus (Botanical Latin meaning " Fox tail ") and Suffix -oides, from Greek εἶδος (eîdos) meaning " aspect, appearance " in reference to the similarity of the inflorescence of this species with that of the genus aforementioned3.

Cenchrus alopecuroides is a herbaceous plant Perennial Cespiteuse, with apparent rhizomes, with stems (Chaumes) erected from 60 to 100 cm long. The Innovations Basales are intravaginal. The intermediaries are smooth or scaberous. The nodes are glabrous. The Leaves, mainly basal, have a sheath Carrénée, Glabre on surface, and a Ligule formed by a hairs of 0.5 to 0, 75 mm long. The Foliar Limbe, 10 to 45 cm long by 3 to 6 mm wide, attenuated with apex, can be erect or falling, flat or guided, or involved4.

Inflorescence is a Panicle Spiciform, linear, 7 to 20 cm long by 1 to 1.5 cm wide. The central axis of the panicle, angular, villeux, has increased primary ramifications, carrying groups of deciduous spikelets. The spikelets are underpinned by an involucre of hair 15 to 30 mm long, with an external verticil of finer hair. These hairs fall with fertile spikelets when they stand out at maturity. Each group of spikelets has 1 to 2 fertile spikelets. The Empstes, lanceolate, subtered, 6 to 8 mm long, have a sterile basal flagship and a fertile flagship, without extension of the Rachillet. They stand out for maturity, with accessory ramification structures4.
