Jojoba, Simmondsia Chinensis |

Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) is a species ofshrub of the family of simmondsiacés. It is cultivated for CIRE (commonly called " Jojoba oil ") contained in its seeds.

2 seeds

This plant is from the extreme south of the United States (Arizona and California) and northern Mexico1. Today, the main producers are Argentina, Israel, The United States, Australia2 and Peru3.

The culture of Jojoba was established in the semi-desert regions of Argentina4, in the northeast of the country5. Recently, Israel embarked on the production of Jojoba and is one of the world's largest producers6. It is also called " or of the desert " or " sheep " because it grows in arid places, in full sun.

If the jojoba hardly exceeds 2.5 m in its natural state, its roots are very long, up to 30 m or more, which allows it to go and get humidity very far and very deeply in the ground.

Its foliage recalls that of the olive tree.

The seeds also called " Almonds " or " beans " are the size of an olive and they are harvested in the fall. Production is subject toBiennial alternation7. The Jojoba oil is extracted, a kind of liquid wax comparable to the sebum and which does not rancid.

Jojoba oil is used in the cosmetics industry to dilute essential oils, replacing the Whale White.

It is also appreciated as oil of Massage, because it easily penetrates the skin and does not leave a feeling of fat, or for the Lubrication of the motors and the diet of the lamps for lighting. It still requires some precautions for use8.

There is an anecdote : the botanist , which has appointed the species from the notes of the Nuttal discoverer in 1836,, A Confused Ncalif and China and had appointed the species Buxus Chinensis[réf. nécessaire] while it is actually from South West of United States.

Furthermore, Oldelaf and Monsieur D use it in their song We, the stars, not without a hint of caustic humor, in order to denounce superficiality of the world of show business. Oldelaf says to develop " a hyper rare allergy to jojoba " which prevents it from having " pretty skin .

Jojoba is also used in their other song Raoul my Pitbull.
