Madia Elegans is an annual herbaceous plant from the Asteraceae family. It is generally known as the common Madia, but there are several subspecies known under various common names.
The plant Madia Elegans is from the West of North America , from the South Center of Washington (State) to the North of Basse-california. It can be found in the dry open forest, disturbed areas and low altitude bass meadows.
Madia Elegans is covered with short and steep hair. The glands are worn on the stems, especially near the flowers. The light flower varies in appearance according to the subspecies and even within the subspecies. As a rule, it is a bright yellow flower resembling a daisy with many fine -ray flowers and several flowers with central disc. It can be a solid lemon yellow or have a center of a different color, from white to brown. Several strongly scented and space -saved inflorescences grow after a green and thin rod. The flowers of the shelves wrap during the day, open at the end of the afternoon and remain open all night until the middle of the morning. It flowers from April to early November.  Its fruits are of the AKENES which were historically used as food by the Amerindians, including the POMO and Miwok , who cooked them or crushed them in Flour .
Exsude foliage a fragrant oil, hence the common name of Tarweed.
