Lupinus Angustifolius is a species of lupine known under many common names, including narrow leaves, [2] the lupine with narrow leaves [3] and blue lupine. He is from Eurasia and North Africa and naturalized in certain parts of Australia and North America. It has been cultivated for over 6000 years [4] as a food culture for its edible legume seeds, as fodder for livestock and as green fertilizer .

The plant is used as Green fertilizer or as a grain legume for animal feed or human consumption. Thanks to its ability to fix nitrogen and its low nutritional elements, this plant is adapted to be planted on exhausted fields like ground amendment . In addition, lupins have strong roots, which can reduce compaction of a soil . [14]
The whole plant, including seeds, is widely used as fodder for livestock, due to its high content in proteins and in energy. Lupins contain high levels of fermentable carbohydrates and low levels of starch and therefore constitute an adequate food for ruminants. But lupins are also a precious food for monogastric animals , due to the high Digestibility of lupine nitrogen and the low level of inhibitors Protease . [15]
Lupins are mainly consumed in the form of fermented foods, bread and pasta, dairy products or germs. In 2020, only 4% of the lupine were consumed by humans, the majority being used as cattle food . Lupine seeds are increasingly used as a source of vegetable proteins on the world market.
