Lupinus Albus, the white lupine, is a species of plants annual herbaceous of family of fabaceae, Subfamille of Faboideae, originally from Mediterranean basin, widely cultivated for their Seeds both in Human food as in Animal food.
The term " Lupine " comes from the Latin lupineus2 which probably designated white lupine among the ancient Romans and which was chosen by Linné To designate the genre. It is theAmerume which would have originally justified the choice of name, derived from lupus, the wolf. The qualifier " White " refers to the color of the flowers.
This proteagine plant, perfectly suited to European climates, is of great interest as a vegetable protein resource. Three other species today have an agronomic interest in human food :
- the Blue Lupine or Lupine with narrow sheet (Lupine Angustifolius), cultivated in Australia ;
- the Lupine Yellow (Lupinus Luteus), cultivated in Central Europe ;
- the changing lupine (Lupine Mutabilis), cultivated in South America, in the Ands.

The white lupine is a plant herbaceous annual, more or less pubescent, which can reach from 30 cm to 1.2 M high. In the middle poor in Phosphorus, white lupine produces particular root heaps, called Proteoid roots, in order to optimize the absorption of this Nutriment.

Its culture has spread more recently to Western Europe andCentrale , up to Russia andUkraine , then in theAmericas , in Tropical Africa and Southern and inAustralia.
