The Lis Maritime (Pancratium maritimum), also called Lis de Mer, or lis des Sables, or even Lis Mathiole, is a perennial plant Bulbeuse Psammophyte of the family of amaryllidaceae (or Liliaceae according to classical classification).

The inflorescence, made up of a dozen flowers combined in umbelle, is carried by a rod of around thirty centimeters emerging from a large bulb buried in the sand. The Leaves 8 to 20 mm wide, are in twisted spiral straps. The Flowers, including the perianthe can exceed ten centimeters, exhale a pleasant odor. The corolla is divided into twelve teeth, two whole teeth separating two stamens. Flowering spreads from July to September. The plant has the distinction of being able to enclose more deeply in order to avoid loosening, or to lengthen its stem in the event of too large covering by sand. It thus plays a role of stabilization of sandy areas.

It is found on the Mediterranean coast, in Corsica and on the Atlantic coast of the Atlantic Pyrenees in Finistère. Formerly called Phenicia lily, this plant grows in a small paradise corner, the island of palm trees (better known as rabbit island) in Tripoli, in northern Lebanon. It is subservient to maritime sands, groups from beaches to the coastal dunes. The species, due to the disappearance of its traditional habitat (dunes), is the subject of protection in certain regions (especially in Provence). It is rare and in danger of disappearance in Poitou-Charentes as well as in Loire-Atlantique.

Sea lily is used as an external fungicide. The bulb and leaves contain around forty alkaloids with purgative, insecticide and fungicide activities.
