The chirette green, of its Latin name andrographis paniculata (syn. justicia paniculata), is a plant of the family of acanthaced native ofIndia and Sri Lanka. Other common names : Andrographis, Justicia, Chirreta, Carmantine, Mahalita, King of the Amers, Echinacea of India, Chuanxinlian (or Chuan Xin Lian).

Andrographis Paniculata has been used, for centuries, in India, by Siddha tribes for Ayurvedic medicine, by Tamils, as well as in tribal medicine to treat fever. In Siddha medicine, the Paniculata Andrographis is widely used to treat fever.
Andrographis Paniculata is renowned for its immune defenses and to prevent respiratory infections by anti-inflammatory effects, Immunostimulants and Febrifuge. For several years, it has been used in oriental medicine as bactericidal, tonic or antidiarrheal.
As said before, it allows you to treat infections, inflammation of the intestinal mucosa, to reduce fever and have potentially an effect on cholera and diabetes. According to some sources, this plant also would have virtues to reduce the high level of glucose and lipids in the blood, it would fight microbes and parasites, everything with expectorants and Antitassive. That is to say, it improves the expulsion of the mucus of the trachea and to stop cough2.
It was even used by an American laboratory to try to treat AIDS.
Nowadays, theOMS recognizes the use of treatments based on this plant for certain respiratory infections (colds, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, Pharyngitis). This plant is not recommended for pregnant women.
