Alisma Plantago-Aquatica, the common water plantain, is a species of monocotyledon herbaceous plants from the alismataceae family. It is one of the plants called water plantain.
This species grows in Africa, Asia and Europe. It is used in traditional medicine, especially in China.

It is a hairless plant that grows in shallow water. It consists of a fibrous root, several leaves of 15 to 30 CM long, arranged in rosettes, with long petioles and a triangular floral shaft of up to 1 M high.
Its branched inflorescence carries many small flowers, 1 cm in diameter, with three slightly irregular, white, pale purple or pale pink round petals. The flowers open in the afternoon. There are 3 green sepales and 6 stamens per flower. It flowers from June to August.
