The charm-houblon, or Ostrier (Ostrya Carpinifolia), rarely exceeds 15 meters in height. It is similar to common charm (Carpinus Betulus) by the shape of its leaves, but it is distinguished by a cracked trunk and by the fruits, which resemble those of Houblon (hence its name).
As in others Betulalaceae, the flowers are gathered in the form of kittens. They appear in April or May and are hermaphrodites. The infruutes looks like a small cone where each seed seems to be locked in a small sachet. The dissemination is ensured by the wind.
