Sacred white sage, Salvia Apiana, Amerindian sage
The white sage (Salvia Apiana) or Sacred Sage is a vivid plant of the Lamiacae family. Coming from North America, this sub -shrub is its importance in the Amerindian tradition where it is used in purification rites, as a basic ingredient for Pinole and also seems to have Medicinal properties.
In many Amerindian peoples of North America, herbs, resins and dried flowers of white sage are used to purify the atmosphere17. During what theis called " smoke ceremony ", the leaves or a stick of incense burned white sage would unload the places of negative energies, to purify people or the events, to chase the “ bad spirit ” and attract beneficial energies18.
The leaves are aromatic19.
Seeds, flour ground, can be used to make porridge.
The infusions of Salvia Apiana are not recommended for breastfeeding women because they inhibit lactation. Pregnant women should not consume it either. Sage tea decreases the sweating, salivation, and the secretion of mucus. The infusion also reduces gorges, and soothes painful rules20. In addition, it also acts as Diaphoretics and Diuretics. The Taint carried out from the leaves acts as Antimicrobial and Antifonggic16.
Root extracts seem to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterococcus faecalis and Candida albicans21.
